"In a situation where half of Syria is not under the control of the central government, the government uses the elections for its own purposes; so in our opinion this election has no legitimacy and government officials need to be tried," Fadi Marei told KurdPress in an interview.
Marie, the head of the Public Relations Office for the Future of Syrian Kurdistan and a member of the Kurdish National Council (ENKS), said: "At a time when half of the Syrian people are displaced and cities have been destroyed, there is no political solution to the situation in Syria and the government has no international legitimacy and the poll is only a way to conserve the government of [Syrian President] Bashar al-Assad.
He continued: "The Syrian government is hiding itself from the UN vote and Geneva Resolution 2254 and does not want the political situation in Syria to be determined."
"That is why we think this election has no legitimacy and it is necessary for the Syrian authorities to go to court today," the official further said.
The ENKS official also noted: "It is necessary for the United Nations and powerful countries to put pressure on the Syrian government to commit itself to creating a political solution to the Syrian crisis. It is also necessary for the people not to participate in this election because it does not meet any of the international standards in its governing system."
