"This is a reminder of the civil war between the Iraqi Kurds, which killed thousands of people 25 years ago," Middle East Eye news website wrote about the recent tensions between the KDP and the PKK in the Chamanki area of Duhok province.
Residents of these areas told the website that due to tensions and rivalry between the PKK and the Iraqi Kurdistan Democratic Party, they were deprived of communication with other areas and were unable to travel normally and could not provide for themselves.
"We do not want another fratricidal war," said Ahmed, the commander of the Peshmerga base in Zinni Warta, which turned into an area of tension between the Iraqi Kurdistan Democratic Party, the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) and the PKK, told Middle East Eye.
"Personally, if such a war takes place in the Kurdistan Region, I will not aim my weapon to kill another Kurd," the Kurdish commander added.
Officials from the KDP and the PKK also stressed on the need for restraint and the avoidance of military tensions.
"We do not want a war. We had a chance to fight, but we decided not to go to war," Aland Amir, a member of the Iraqi KDP and the head of the Chamanki district, told Middle East Eye.
He claimed that the PKK wanted ordinary people to leave the area to facilitate their movement.
"Our forces retaliated against the action against these forces in the Gareh area," Zagros Hiva, a PKK spokesman, told Middle East Eye about the PKK fighters' action against the Peshmerga forces in Chamanki.
He added: "We are always ready to cooperate and negotiate with other organizations. The PKK does not want war but will defend its position in the region."
But civilians, especially those living in villages in northern Kurdistan, whose lives have been severely affected by repeated Turkish bombings under the pretext of the PKK's presence in these areas, fear that the civil war between the Kurds will worsen the insecurity in the area.
