During a meeting with his French counterpart in Paris, the Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein praised the French president's visit to Baghdad two weeks ago and stressed that the visit provided an important impetus for the development of bilateral relations between the two countries and the al-Kadhimi plans to make a visit to Paris soon.
Hussein, who arrived in Paris at the head of a high-level delegation, met with French Foreign Minister John Laudrian, according to Middle East News.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed developments the political and security situation in Iraq and the importance of maintaining coordination between the two countries in the framework of bilateral relations as France is a member of the international coalition to fight the ISIS terrorist group.
Other issues discussed during the meeting included economic projects to be invested in Iraq and preparation for al-Kadhimi’s upcoming visit to France.
The head of the Iraqi foreign affairs praised the active role of France in the international coalition to fight the terrorist group ISIS and stressed the importance of continuing this cooperation to prevent the return of other terrorist groups to Iraq.
The Iraqi and French foreign ministers also discussed mechanisms for bilateral cooperation at the political, security, economic and cultural levels, and the entry of French companies into Iraq to play a role in rebuilding the country.
On the other hand, Laudrian stressed his country's full readiness to support Iraq and strengthen its position in the international and regional community, and explained that France, through its diplomatic activities within this framework, has played its international role in supporting the sovereignty of Iraq.
Hussein's visit to France is part of his visit to European countries to discuss strengthening bilateral relations and finding mechanisms to achieve greater cooperation and coordination in various fields and to achieve common interests.
Earlier, the head of the Iraqi foreign policy affairs traveled to Germany and Belgium on official visits and at the head of a high-level delegation where met with the top officials of the two European countries.
