Syrian Kurds in talks with Damascus to preserve autonomy: party leader

<p style="text-align:left">The recent talks between Kurds in Syria and the government in Damascus is an attempt to preserve what they have already built throughout the past few years, former leader of Democratic Union Party (PYD), Salih Muslim said.

&ldquo;We are trying to preserve everything we built in terms of the autonomous system, the institutions, the democracy,&rdquo; Muslim was cited by AFP.
"But there's a mentality that won't accept this right away, so it has to happen gradually.&rdquo;
The PYD is now leading talks with Damascus in order to reach a solution to their political tensions, as well as a mechanism for ruling the Kurdish areas in northern Syria.
"Syria will not go back to what it was. There needs to be decentralised democracy," Muslim said.
He pointed out that the Syrian Kurds have a project that could be used as a model for all Syria.
