According to Kurdpress, on Sunday, February 1, 2026, Fouad Hossein announced in an interview with Kurdistan 24 channel that no agreement has been reached regarding the post of Iraqi president.
He also mentioned that tomorrow a delegation of the Shiite coordination framework will meet with the head of the Kurdistan Democratic Pa.
These statements are made while Shahwan Abdullah, the head of the Kurdistan Democratic Party faction in the Iraqi Parliament, has announced that it has been agreed to give a few days to the Shiite coordination framework.
He also emphasized that the candidate for Shiite coordination framework has been rejected from the international perspective.
According to the post-2003 agreements on the basis of which the new Iraq was formed, the post of the president of Iraq has been allocated to Kurds, and Kurdish parties, including the Kurdistan Democratic Party, the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan and the Islamic Union, have each nominated candidates for this post.
Initially, 81 people had registered their candidacy for the post of Iraqi President, but finally, on Friday, January 23, the Iraqi Parliament Presidium published the final list of candidates for this post.
This list included 19 candidates, but Nozhad Hadi, one of the two candidates of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, withdrew from the competition, and as a result, the number of candidates was reduced to 18.
The remaining 18 candidates are:
