Erbil and Baghdad hold talks on financial and customs cases

Iraq and Kurdistan Region Service – As the uncertainty over the payment of salaries to Kurdistan Region employees continues, an official delegation from Erbil arrived in Baghdad to discuss financial and customs issues  with Iraqi officials.

According to Kurdpress, today, Sunday, April 5, 2026, a delegation from the Kurdistan Regional Government, headed by the Chairman of the Cabinet, traveled to Baghdad to discuss several important financial and administrative cases with Iraqi government officials.

According to published information, the delegation is scheduled to meet with the office of Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammad Shia Al-Sudani to discuss three main issues, including determining the process of financing the salaries of Kurdistan Region employees for March, finding a mechanism to transfer non-oil domestic revenues in accordance with the budget law, and resolving disputes related to the integration of the electronic customs at border crossing between Erbil and Baghdad.

Although the Iraqi Prime Minister has previously promised to send the salaries of the Region's employees, the Iraqi Minister of Finance has demanded that the provide detailed details of non-oil revenues in recent month so that financial calculations can be made based on that.
