Iraqi oil ministry to build new refinery in Kirkuk – report

Iraq’s oil ministry plans to build a new refinery in Kirkuk province, the Iraqi official news agency reported on Wednesday.

The new refinery will have a total capacity of 75,000 barrels of oil per day, INA cited the state-run North Refineries Company as saying, according to Reuters.
Iraq has worked to divert most output from Kirkuk oilfield to local refineries since 2017 following its conflict with the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) over the use of an export pipeline to Turkey.
In December 2017, the oil ministry added a new processing unit to the Kirkuk oil refinery, increasing the plant’s capacity to 56,000 bpd.
The North Refineries Company also said the ministry would also raise capacity at its Haditha refinery with two new units, Reuters reported.
