Kurdish party leader backs Barham Salih to be re-elected as Iraq's president

The leader of the Kurdistan Justice Party stressed that the party has not yet decided to vote for any of the Iraqi presidential candidates, adding that he considered current President Barham Salih a better choice for the Iraqi presidency.

According to the Nas Kurd news website, Ali Bapir, the leader of the Kurdistan Justice Party, announced during a press conference that his party has not yet announced which presidential candidate it will vote for in the Iraqi parliament.

He added that in his personal opinion, Barham Salih, a Patriotic Union of Kurdistan Party (PUK) member, is a more suitable option for the presidency of Iraq and believes that the re-election of Barham Salih for the presidency is in the interest of the Iraqi people and the Kurdistan Region.

Bapir also noted that there is a possibility talks between the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and the PUK to resolve their disputes over the presidency, but that the two parties should know that the Kurdistan Region does not belong to them and that the KDP should be flexible and step back from some of its demands.

Ali Bapir further said that he did not know about the impact of foreign interference in Iraq's problems, and that he believed that the root of the problem was inside Iraq itself.

It should be noted that the PUK has nominated Barham Salih and the KDP has nominated Riber Ahmed for the presidency of Iraq as the presidency of Iraq would go to the Kurds according to an agreement between all sides in Iraq and the two parties' rivalry for the post has sparked sharp differences between them.
