The Movement said in a statement on Sunday that the results of the election had the same legitimacy as the one that former Iraq President Saddam Hussein won in 2002, when he got 100 percent of the votes.
“These results, where the Kurdistan Democratic Party got 45 seats and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan got 21, remind us of the results of the Iraq election on October 16, 2002 when 100 percent of voters participated in it and Saddam Hussein won 100 percent of the votes,” the statement read.
“The votes and seats [won by] the KDP and the PUK are as correct as those for Saddam Hussein.”
New Generation said the KDP and the PUK have insulted the people and held fraudulent elections in the Kurdistan Region for the last 27 years. It also called on the other parties to unite their political ranks and stand against the current situation.
It suggested there were three distinct choices that the parties could make following the election:
One, withdraw from the parliament and found a joint political entity to end the power of the two ruling parties in the Kurdistan Region.
Two, create a strong opposition inside and outside the Kurdistan Region and its parliament as a way to prepare for the next four years and create a strong public front against fraud in the Region.
Three, enter into a partnership of fraud and crime against the people of the Kurdistan Region and be a part of both ruling parties.
“We refuse any partnership with the KDP and the PUK and we are ready to join with others to withdraw from parliament and engage in joint action against the two ruling parties,” the statement said.
“We hope the Change Movement, the Kurdistan Islamic Union, and the Kurdistan Islamic Group will join us as soon as possible to create this front to stand against the KDP and the PUK.”
