In an interview with KurdPress, Kufan Kanao, the leader of the KDP.S, referred to the election of Brett McGurk as the senior director of the National Security Council in Washington's Middle East and North Africa policy and stated that the US view shifted away from Middle East issues, and Turkey and Russia seized the opportunity to seize some areas of northern Syria by pro-Turkish and jihadist groups.
He continued: "The election of McGurk was good and important news for the Kurds and during his time a lot of help was given to the People's Defense Forces and democratic Syria."
He added: "We hope that during Biden's presidency, support for the Kurds in Syria will continue more widely and strategically."
Pointing to the US view of the Kurdish issue in Syria, the head of the Kurdistan Democratic Party of Syria, stated: "The US relationship with the Kurds is only military, and we want this relationship to change from military to political, and the US focus on Kurdish political and diplomatic efforts."
The official noted: "It is true that political and diplomatic delegations from different countries come to Syrian Kurdistan, but so far they have not acknowledged the existence of the self-ruling administration and have not commented on it, and we hope that this issue will change during the Biden and McGurk periods."
Kufan Kanao reminded: It is necessary to form a leadership and management board in Syrian Kurdistan with the presence of all parties and movements."
The party leader added: "Given the current situation, it is necessary to change the policy of the Kurds in Syria and redefine the national interests of the Kurds in Syria by creating unity among all political movements, because losing today's opportunities poses irreparable dangers for Kurdish people in the future."
