Washington seeking to mediate between Erbil and Baghdad in Kirkuk

<p style="text-align:left">London-based al-Araby al-Jadid daily stated in a report that Washington plans to mediate between the governments of Erbil and Baghdad over the situatin in the disputed city of Kirkuk.

Qouting a high-level political official, the daily stated that the US embassy in Baghdad held a meeting attended by Arab, Kurdish and Turkmen leaders in Kirkuk where the meeting discussed the troubles in Kirkuk province as well as the political, economic and security disputes in the province and its capital Kirkuk.
The gathering discussed the joint control of Kirkuk by the governments in Baghdad and Erbil, the capital of Kurdistan Region.
According to the US plan the security case of Kirkuk province will be delivered to Baghdad as the Kurds demand the return of a number of Peshmerga forces to Kirkuk but the Arabs and Turkmens of the province are against the issue.
The official further added that more meetings are going to be held in this regard.
