Turkey jets hit areas in Kurdistan Region

<p style="text-align: left;">Turkish fighter jets bombed the foothills of Qandil Mountain in the Kurdistan Region early on Thursday, May 2, authorities said.

Local officials said in a statement that the Turkish warplanes had bombed the villages of Kuzina, Zargali, Bokriskan, Lewzha, Endiza, and Kurtak over a period of an hour and a half.

No casualties were reported, but the statement said that the bombing had caused damage to the villages.

Turkey routinely bombs targets in the Kurdistan Region in an effort to combat the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK).

On April 30, Turkish warplanes conducted airstrikes on Alhum mountain in the Amedi district, northeast of Duhok city.

The fighter jets of Turkey also bombarded Gara mountain range and damaged a mosque in in Kani Mazi in the Chamaki sub-district in separate strikes on April 29.

Monday's strikes occurred while Turkish foreign minister Mevlut Cavusoglu was in the Kurdistan Region for meetings with Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani and other officials.
