The House voted 351 to 66 to approve HR 5515, which will now move on to the Senate for approval.
The legislation “would…authorize a funding level of $850 million for such support in Iraq” in a section devoted to combating Islamic State (IS) in Iraq and Syria, NRT reported.
Although not explicitly identified in the legislative language, sources say that the Peshmerga will receive $290 million of that fund, which represents a slight increase over last year’s funding.
This level of funding could change depending on what decisions the Senate makes, but Congress has historically been supportive of funding the Iraqi and Kurdish security forces.
