Turkish army fires shells at Kurdish settlements in northern Syria

Turkey’s military fired mortar shells at Kurdish settlements in the Tel Abyad and Shahba regions of northern Syria late on Sunday, Firat news agency reported.

Three villages came under heavy fire, leading to destruction and injuries, the report said. It did not provide details of the casualties.
Several other villages were shelled near the town of Ayn Issa located along the strategic Aleppo-Hasakah highway earlier on Sunday, Firat said.
Turkey began a latest military incursion into northern Syria on October 9 last year, aiming to establish what it calls a safe zone in Syrian territory along the border.
The Turkish military has taken control of a 120-km long and 32-km deep region between the border towns of Ras al Ayn and Tel Abyad after the government made separate agreements with the United States and Russia for the removal of Kurdish forces from the region.
