Trump's statements about Nouri Maliki are not interference in Iraqi affairs

Iraq and Kurdistan Region Service - The US State Department, reacting to Donald Trump's recent statements about Nouri al-Maliki's candidacy for Iraqi Prime Minister, announced that this stance does not mean interfering in Iraq's internal affairs and is merely a reflection of Washington's political concerns regarding the future stability of Iraq and the common interests of the two countries.

According to Kordpress, the US State Department announced that US President Donald Trump's position regarding Nouri al-Maliki's candidacy for the post of Iraqi Prime Minister does not pose any threat; Rather, it is a realistic reflection of the common interests between Baghdad and Washington and does not aim to interfere in Iraq's internal affairs.

According to the US State Department, the country's latest position on the Iraqi prime minister candidate shows that the re-introduction of Nouri al-Maliki for this position may have negative consequences for Iraq's political stability.

Trump believes that Maliki's return to the post of prime minister is an inappropriate option in the current situation.

The statement emphasized: "The United States fully respects Iraqi sovereignty and does not seek to impose a decision or a name on the Iraqi political process." Trump's statements about Iraq are expressed from the position of political responsibility and are not included in the framework of interfering in Iraq's internal affairs or violating the sovereignty of this country.

On the evening of the 27th of this month, US President Donald Trump wrote in a message on the "Truth Social" platform: "I heard that the great country of Iraq may make a very big mistake and elect Nouri al-Maliki as prime minister again." The last time Maliki was in power, the country was dragged into poverty and chaos."

"This should not be allowed to happen again," he added. Because of his extreme policies and ideologies, if he is re-elected, the United States will stop helping Iraq. If we are not there to help, Iraq will have no chance of success, development or freedom. Make Iraq great again!

This message was published while Trump's stance on Nouri al-Maliki's candidacy has sparked a wide debate in Iraq. In such a way that some currents consider it a serious threat and others consider it merely an expression of an American political position regarding the form of the future government and the nature of Baghdad-Washington relations.
