The election of the Iraqi president has been postponed once again

Service of Iraq and Kurdistan Region - A high-ranking delegation from the Shiite currents goes to Erbil and Sulaymaniyah to convince the Patriotic Union and the Democratic Party of Kurdistan to agree on a presidential candidate.

According to Kordpress, according to informed sources, it is unlikely that today's meeting of the Iraqi House of Representatives will be held to elect the president. Because the differences between the Kurdistan Democratic Party and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan continue and the two sides have not reached an agreement on the introduction of a joint candidate for the post of president.

According to Dramedia, Iraqi media have reported that the framework of Shia coordination emphasizes that the Democratic Party and the Patriotic Union enter the Iraqi parliament with a single candidate, A move aimed at preventing the intensification of the split within the Shiite movement, especially after the rejection of Nouri al-Maliki's candidacy for Iraqi Prime Minister by the President of the United States, Donald Trump; An issue that has caused new differences among Shiites.

Although in the last meeting of the coordination framework that was held last night, this movement's support for Nouri al-Maliki's candidacy was once again announced, but according to Iraqi media, a delegation of the coordination framework consisting of Hadi Al-Amiri, Mohammad Shia al-Sudani and Mohsen Mandalavi is scheduled to travel to Erbil and meet with Masoud Barzani, the head of the Kurdistan Democratic Party.

After that, this delegation will go to Sulaymaniyah to talk with Bafel Talabani, the head of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan.

The purpose of these meetings is to convince the two Kurdish parties to agree on a single candidate, to control the internal differences in the Kurdish front, as well as to manage the differences within the Shia movement, and to create a national consensus about future decisions and to deal with American pressure.

Meanwhile, Shia sources point out that despite the support of the coordination framework for Maliki, it is unlikely that he will be directly entrusted with the task of forming the next government after the election of the president.

This issue will be postponed until Iraq's diplomatic efforts continue to convince America about Maliki's candidacy, and at the same time, an alternative option for Maliki is also discussed in the Shiite talks.
