Iran wants to reach a real agreement

Turkish Service - Referring to the relative readiness of the US and Iran to reach a nuclear agreement, Turkey's foreign minister warned that the expansion of talks to Tehran's missile program would not lead to "anything but another war" and emphasized the need to consider the concerns of the countries in the region.

According to Kordpress, Hakan Fidan commented on the current developments and Iran's nuclear negotiations in an interview with the British newspaper Financial Times.

Stating that both the United States and Iran appear ready to compromise in order to reach a nuclear agreement, Fidan stressed that expanding the scope of negotiations to Iran's ballistic missile program "will bring nothing but another war."

He also said that the US government has announced that it is ready to show flexibility regarding its main demand to completely stop Iran's uranium enrichment activities.

Pointing out that Iran "really wants to reach a real agreement", the Turkish Foreign Minister stated that it seems that Tehran will accept restrictions on the level of enrichment as well as a strict monitoring regime, as in the 2015 agreement with the United States and other world powers.

Fidan added that Turkey is in constant contact with the authorities of the United States, Iran and other countries in the region and said: "The fact that the Americans are apparently willing to tolerate Iran's uranium enrichment within a certain framework is a positive development."

He continued: "The Iranians have now accepted that they have to come to an agreement with the Americans, and the Americans also understand that the Iranians have certain red lines. Trying to force them is pointless."

At the same time, Fidan warned that if America insists on solving all the disputes at the same time - including Iran's missile capacity and support for armed groups - even the nuclear case will not progress and "the result could be a new war in the region."

He said that Turkey and other countries in the region are trying to present "creative ideas" to address the issue of Iran's missile power and the country's support for armed groups, and these initiatives can play a "constructive and effective" role.

Referring to America's "deep concern" about Iran's nuclear capacity, Fidan added: "But other issues are directly related to regional countries, because missiles and proxy forces affect regional security and do not have a global sphere of influence."

He also said that maintaining military supremacy in the region is a fundamental priority for Israel, and the presence of Iranian missiles makes it difficult to achieve this goal.

The Turkish Foreign Minister stressed that the Trump administration and Iran should not repeat the mistakes of the past; The mistakes made in 2015 made the countries of the region feel left out of the negotiation process.

Fidan said: "It is important for Iran to combine any agreement with the US with confidence-building steps towards regional partners. This balance is very important. There is a significant trust gap between Iran and the countries of the region, and it is very important to address this aspect.

He also pointed to Iran's internal conditions and said that the government of this country knows very well that public dissatisfaction is mainly caused by economic problems and therefore understands that the issue of sanctions should be resolved.

In the end, Fidan stressed that he does not expect a regime change in Iran and added: "Government institutions and some other targets may be hit or damaged, but the Iranian government will continue to work as a political entity."
