Mehmet Öcalan, Abdullah Öcalan's brother, in a video interview with the Kurdish news agency Valat, explaining the details of his recent meeting with him, announced that the leader of the PKK branch devoted a significant part of the talks to the topic of "mother tongue". According to him, Abdullah Ocalan emphasized that the "fifty-year struggle" has made the existence of the Kurds recognized and now a new stage has begun in which the Kurdish language should find its real place in the public, political and social arena.

Based on this narrative, Öcalan stated that from now on in Kurdistan, all democratic institutions must conduct their activities, meetings, statements and executive affairs in Kurdish. He has considered this issue not as a symbolic demand, but as a basic necessity to establish the identity and freedom of the Kurds. Mehmet Ojalan said that his brother believes that without the rule of the Kurdish language in civil and political institutions, the achievements of the past years will not be complete.

In this context, Abdullah Ojalan has also criticized some Kurdish parties and institutions. According to Mehmet Ocalan, he has expressed dissatisfaction with the fact that some Kurdish organizations only use the Kurdish language for a few words or greetings and short messages and continue their activities in Turkish. Ocalan considered this approach to be contrary to the spirit of identity struggle and said that this kind of action cannot bring the society to real freedom.

He also emphasized that life in the Kurdish language should flow in all areas; From the home environment and family relationships to political meetings and official activities. According to Mehmet Ocalan, he even told political activists that if a person considers himself a Kurd but does not speak the Kurdish language, morally he should not be in the position of a political pioneer.
