In this meeting, which was also attended by Masrour Barzani, the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, Tom Barak appreciated Barzani's role in preventing the spread of war and violence, as well as the efforts to calm the recent developments in Syria and advance the agreement between the Syrian government and the Syrian Democratic Forces.

According to the statement of Barzani's office, Barak also pointed out that Barzani's wisdom and guidance can be used in solving Iraq's problems and challenges, and emphasized that his country wants an Iraq with complete sovereignty. He added that in this framework, the continuation of the relations and partnership of the United States with Iraq and the Kurdistan Region is particularly important.

In this meeting, Barzani, referring to the history and struggles of the Kurdistan people and the crimes and genocides committed against this nation, emphasized that the people of Kurdistan have always wanted peace and coexistence and prefer solving problems away from violence.

Regarding Iraq, he also said that adherence to the constitution and the principles of partnership, compromise and balance are the basis for the country's progress and securing the interests of all Iraqi nations. Barzani stated that the implementation of the constitution, maintaining the sovereignty and independence of Iraq, establishing balanced relations with the neighbors and continuing the partnership between Iraq and the United States are of fundamental importance.

Barzani once again emphasized that the future government of Iraq must adhere to the constitution and the principles of federalism, and to solve the unresolved issues, the necessary laws, including the oil and gas law, the implementation of Article 140 and other laws related to federalism, should be approved.

Regarding the post of Iraqi president, Barzani clarified that as long as this post is the share of the people of Kurdistan, there should be a proper mechanism to determine its candidate that expresses the true will of the people of Kurdistan.

Regarding the prime ministership of Iraq, he also pointed to the necessity of respecting Iraq's national interests and said that the decision-making coordination framework is about the candidate for this post, and from our point of view, the prime minister must adhere to the constitution and the principles of partnership, balance and compromise.

The internal developments of the climate and the situation in the region were also among the other axes of this meeting, and Barzani expressed hope that the problems of the region would be solved through peaceful means and that the region would stay away from war and violence.
