60% decrease in customs revenues of the Kurdistan Region

Service of Iraq and Kurdistan Region - The spokesperson of the Kurdistan Regional Government announced that the internal revenues of the region, especially in the customs sector, have faced a significant decrease, and according to the statistics provided, the customs revenues have decreased by 60%.

According to Kurdpress, Peshwa Horamani, the spokesperson of the Kurdistan Regional Government, announced in an interview with Kurdistan 24 that at the meeting of the Kurdistan Regional Council of Ministers, it was decided to extend the 20% amnesty for traffic violations until June 30, 2026.

The spokesman of the regional government added that since February 23, the list of salaries and the revised balance of last month has been sent to the Iraqi Ministry of Finance.

Horamani also said that one of the main topics of today's meeting was the reforms of the Ministry of Peshmerga and these reforms are going in the right direction.

According to him, the process of integrating the Peshmerga forces of the Kurdistan region is being implemented in different stages and the government fully supports this process.

Referring to the financial situation of the region, he stated that the internal revenues of the region have been under pressure and have decreased significantly, and according to the announcement, the customs revenues of the Kurdistan Region have faced a 60% decrease.

The spokesperson of the regional government clarified that currently the dialogue with the federal government of Iraq is being conducted only regarding the issue of employees' rights, but after the formation of the new federal government, the discussions will be resumed regarding the budget share and financial rights of the Kurdistan Region.

According to him, the annual share of the Kurdistan Region from the general budget of Iraq is 22 thousand billion dinars, while the region needs 14 thousand billion dinars to pay salaries.

Horamani also emphasized that currently no decision has been taken to send a regional delegation to Baghdad, but the region has declared its readiness to clarify non-oil revenues whenever the federal government is ready.

In the end, he said that the Kurdistan region's oil exports continue according to the agreements, and the list of salaries and requests for salary payments have also been sent to Baghdad, and the regional government is ready to implement any necessary solution in this regard.
