Meeting between Nechirvan Barzani and Ahmed al-Shara on the sidelines of the Antalya meeting

Iraq and Kurdistan Region Service - Kurdistan Regional President Nechirvan Barzani and Syrian President Ahmed al-Shara met on the sidelines of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum in Türkiye. Praising the progress made by the Islamic State in the implementation of the agreement with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), Barzani emphasized the need to strengthen security and economic cooperation between Iraq, the Kurdistan Region and Syria.

According to Kurdpress, Kurdistan Regional President Nechirvan Barzani and Syrian President Ahmed al-Shara met on the sidelines of the Antalya meeting.

This meeting was held this morning (Friday, April 17, 2026) in Antalya, Türkiye.

The President of the Kurdistan Region announced in his user account on the X social network: "I praised the continuous efforts of President al-Shar'a to stabilize stability in Syria and his significant progress in implementing the agreement with the SDF."

He added: "We discussed strengthening relations between Iraq, the Kurdistan Region and Syria to advance common security and economic goals."

The Antalya meeting is organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Türkiye. This year's session titled "Managing Uncertainties in Tomorrow's Roadmap" is being held and will continue from April 17 to 19, 2026.
