The meeting focused on assessing the security situation and gaps in the disputed areas. The attendees exchanged views on the mechanisms for confronting ISIS remnants and protecting the Kurdistan Region.
"We repeatedly warned the Iraqi government and the international coalition of the dangers of ISIS remnants movements and their taking advantage of areas with security gaps," Talabani said.
He added, "We, as Peshmerga forces, will now have our own plan and strategy to further protect the Kurdistan Region and the souls of the Peshmerga, because we must protect the lives of the Peshmerga's and associates of security agencies, including Asayish and the counter-terrorism forces, just as much as we are concerned for peace and security, and this will be done by providing them with their needs."
The Co-Leader ordered commanders and all security forces to work on these decisions and to be more careful about the dangers of terrorists, to protect the peace and lives of the people with their military and security capabilities.
The meeting came, after Islamic State militants attacked the Kurdish Peshmerga forces in the Kifri district of the Garmian region, in which 2 Peshmerga were killed and 2 others were wounded.
